Water is SO Important

bottle_0454_final           All over the world people are becoming more aware of the importance of drinking water as part of a healthy diet. Some people might not know why it’s important to drink plenty of water and some of the benefits of doing so. Below are some interesting facts about water consumption.

Body Function

Water is important for your body to function correctly. Since your body is made up of about 60% water, it’s easy to see what being dehydrated can do to you. Staying hydrated is important for temperature regulation, digestion, the production of saliva, and good circulation. When you don’t drink enough water these systems all slow down.

Kidney Function

Your kidneys naturally cleanse your body of toxins and keep you healthy. A proper hydration level is important. If you aren’t drinking enough water then your kidneys will have a harder time doing their job. Making sure that you drink enough that your urine is light colored is a good indicator of being hydrated.

Water Occurs Naturally in Some Foods

While drinking a glass of water may be the easiest way to stay hydrated, there are a number of foods that have a high level of water in them and can help with thirst and keeping hydrated. Celery, watermelon, cucumbers, and broth soups all have a high water content and are good for you.

Healthy Muscles

When your muscles cells don’t have enough water they don’t function as well as hydrated cells do. This can cause delays in your performance. When you’re working out it’s important to stay hydrated so that you can perform at your highest ability. Drinking water beforehand is a great way to make sure that your muscles have the water they need.

Healthy Skin

Drinking plenty of water promotes healthy skin. When you are dehydrated your skin suffers and you’ll see the effect in wrinkles. Making sure that you’re well hydrated throughout the day is one way to ensure healthy skin.

Some people struggle with drinking enough water but there are some tricks to make it a little easier to stay hydrated throughout the day. Having a glass of water when you wake up, before meals, and before bed is a great start to being hydrated. Make sure that you eat fruits and veggies with a lot of water in them. And most importantly, when drinking alcohol, make sure to alternate with water to stay hydrated.
